Tom Carroll



National Commission on Teaching and America's Future
President

Tom Carroll was named President of the National Council on Teaching and America's Future (NCTAF) in November 2001. In his role as NCTAF's President, Carroll leads the organization's efforts to raise standards for teaching and learning, improve professional, and restructure school environments so that the needs of all students are met.

Before joining NCTAF, Carroll worked at the U.S. Department of Education. There, he was founding director of the Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology grants program, redesigning teacher preparation using new learning technologies.

Previously, Carroll served as Director of Technology Planning and Evaluation at the Schools and Libraries Corporation, Director of the Technology Innovation Challenge Grants at the U.S. Department of Education, Secretary of Education's liaison to the Corporation for National Service, Deputy Director of the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) in the U. S. Department of Education, and at the National Institute of Education.

Carroll holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
